Lime Crime's Airborne Unicorn

OKAY so remember how the other day I was saying I was on the hunt for the perfect purple lipstick, and Airborne Unicorn was a candidate? Well, Lime Crime was having a 20% off sale that day so I went ahead and got it. Although it didn't end up being the color I was looking for, I actually really, really like it.
Now, before you get mad at me I just want to say that I'm not one to be bothered by that kind of drama. (If you haven't heard, just google it). If the company had been killing puppies or something then yeah, I'd have a problem with it but whatever went on doesn't really concern me too much. I don't AGREE with how they handled some things, but I would think that since then they would have learned their lesson.
The only thing that ever interested me was their lipsticks (no, not that gross blue one). There's a couple of reasons why I would never buy their eyeshadows. First, they're $14. That's too much. Second, I've seen swatches and while they are pretty, I feel like I could get the same thing elsewhere for much cheaper. Whether or not they are repackaged I can't say because even though they've been accused of this in the past, they never admitted to it. Regardless, all of that is enough to make me pass on the eyeshadows. The lipsticks, however, have interested me for a long time. I kept going back and forth on whether I wanted to try them or not. I'd go "Ooh so pretty, I want." and then "Ehh but they're $16, ehh the company has a bad repuation.." The price is what really put me off. $16 is a lot, it's more than a MAC lipstick. Since it was 20% off though, I thought I'd try one.
ANYWAY. On to the stuff.
HOW CUTE IS THAT BOX? I'm probably going to keep it, because I'm lame like that. My package shipped the day after I paid for it and arrived very quickly.
SEE. Proof that I actually bought this and therefore have no reason to lie about the products. The only reason I'm emphasizing this is because everytime I see a review of this company that's positive, all the comments are like "NUHH U LIE U GOT PAID TO SAY TAHT." I'm sure it's happened, but it's not happening here.

You can't tell me that's not beautiful. I LOVE the color. It's a little more pink than I thought it was going to be but I love it. It's not ridiculous, but it's also fun. I've read a lot of reviews saying these lipsticks are drying. Um, whut. I'm not sure if it has to do with the color or if they changed their formula, but this lipstick is not drying. It's really creamy. I waited to write this up so I could wear it a while and see how it is. It's very moisturizing, actually. I dunno. Again, maybe it's certain colors or maybe they changed their formula.

This isn't really supposed to be a review or anything, I kind of just felt like I should give my opinion on this since the reviews are SOOO mixed. I really have no reason to lie about it, and I would hope no one would think I would do that! I love my readers I wouldn't recommend crap to you guys :D I do understand the people who are against this company too, though. They do have kind of an iffy repuation and sometimes it can just put a bad taste in your mouth. I just prefer to ignore the drama. Take it for what it's worth, but I really like it! I probably won't order more colors anytime soon because I'm BROKE and they're overpriced, but I do not regret this purchase. I hope this helps for anyone that was on the fence about this brand.

  1. What a pretty color!

And I'm with you, I try to ignore all the drama that goes around. I have so many other things to worry about than cosmetic drama! I have never been to interested in Lime Crime because of their prices also. There are a lot of other great companies out there that you can get similar shadows from, for better prices.

However, this lipstick looks amazing! I'm glad you found a winner from Lime Crime!

  2. I think their prices are insane! That coupled with all the drama.... Nah, no LC for me. The lippy is bloody gorgeous, so clearly some of the products have something going for them. Anyway, ignoring it all, you look awesome in that lippy! And if it is creamy you can mix it to make more purples too and then that's made it less expensive. Sort of.

  3. Thanks! :D I totally understand, though, they are quite overpriced. That's the main thing that kept me away for so long. I am glad I got this color though, I really like it. I think I can definitely get my money's worth from this one, I can see myself wearing it often.

  4. Uber pretty colour! But I won't be getting any :( I was one of the turkeys who got ripped off a couple years ago buying $12 glitters (6!!) because I didn't know to do my homework first :( If someone else can dupe these I'd be all over that!

  5. Thanks! I like it, but I understand. That sucks. And they've gone up to $14 now! I could understand if they were in huge jars (kinda like how Sugarpill is) but they aren't..so it's a rip-off unless there's real fairy dust in those jars which I doubt. haha

  7. Thanks! :) Nah, it is overpriced. Luckily I got mine for 20% off though so it was only like 12 something. Still up there but better than $16!

  8. OH, THAT BOX. Pretty boxes is probably where all their eyeshadow profit goes. ;)

I like it, almost lilac, but I'm waiting to see that deep purple you're aiming for!

  9. haha You're probably right. And the lipstick tube itself! I can't believe I didn't post a picture but it's the same color as the box (the purple one) and its got a silver holographic unicorn on the side. It's cute but uh..it kinda looks like a vibrator. haha
And yeah, I'm thinking maybe I can use this color to mix with other things to get what I want.

  10. omg... that lippie looks so freaking adorable on you..

My sister just saw the pics and she's like "I hate her!!" After some pressing, I found out she hates you for having such lovely bow-shaped lips. haha

    Seriously though, so cute. <3

  11. I used to be such a fan of Xenia ever since she did have her limecrime site eons ago but it makes me sad to think about the drama now :(

The lipstick looks super nice for you but they're totally not for me, I'm more of a neutral lips girl and I think with the eyeshadows, paying 14 for 2 grams is piddling

  12. Airborne Unicorn looks great on you! I kind of want it, but I don't want to pay $16; probably wait for a sale or something. I did get Styletto ages ago, and liked it, not drying at all, but I lost it.

  13. Thanks! :D Styletto was the first one that caught my attention. I LOVE black lipstick. If it helps, they're having a 15% off sale today, the code is HUSHHUSH15
I'll give them this, they do have sales and specials quite often.

  14. I do like the color (it fits you very well) but not the bad reputation of the company... I'm waiting for the pastel lipstick collection of morgana cryptoria to be released, because she planned on making that kind of creamy pigmented colors that I really like. (It's almost certain that there will be a pink and a peach, maybe a lilac... can't wait!!)

  15. I know, I'm stoked about Morgana's pastel colors as well! I'd get excited about any new lipstick from her, Melissa is amazing.

  16. I think Lime Crime is starting to move towards the right direction.. I want to love Doe's company but the drama kind of puts me off. (That and the prices!)I remember hearing from a few reviews that Retrofuturist, My Beautiful Rocket, and Airbourne Unicorn were the least drying. (I think No She Didn't and Great Pink Planet were the most dry, based on what I've heard.) She has started to reformulate her products, she seems less defensive on her blog, and her customer service seems improved. She has also had a lot of sales lately. All of my opinions are based off of what I've read from reviews and from Doe's blog. I haven't purchased from her yet.

If I had the money I would probably give her lipsticks a chance..but not the eye shadows. The comparisons with TKB are pretty damaging, and none of the colours really scream out at me. I would rather spend the money on Shiro or Fyrinnae and get more colours cheaper. She has talked about coming out with a green or grey lipstick, I'm interested to see what she comes up with.

Ultimately its your decision whether or not you buy from a certain company and its not anyone's place to tell you where to spend your money or where not to spend your money. I trust your reviews, I have no reason to think you would lie.

(Wow that was long, sorry about that!)

  17. No, thank you for that. I agree with 100% of what you said. I do think LC has started to move in a better direction. I really think they learned their lesson from all that happened, and as long as they keep going the way they are I have no problems with them.
The eyeshadows, yeah. Even if no one had ever thought they were repackaged I still wouldn't get them for $14 because, like you said, you can get the same thing if not better from places like Fyrinnae. The lipsticks are the only things that ever interested me in the first place. I just HATE that they're $16. I paid 12 something for mine since it was on sale, and I think that would be more fair. That's still high, but I realize they put a lot of effort into the cutesy packaging because it's part of their image. I'm sure that drives the price way up.
See? Mine was long too. haha ANYWAY thanks for sharing, and again, I totally agree with you!
